Spider-Man: Not Any More; Tom Holland is unsure of his future in the MCU
Tom began his acting career in the West End theatre in
the title role of Billy Elliot the Musical from 2008 to 2010. He subsequently
went on to feature in The Impossible (2012), for which he won the London Film Critics
Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year. He was cast as Spiderman
in the Marvel Cinematic Universe a few years later. Tom has been a phenomenon
among movie fans since his initial appearance as Spiderman.
Tom's large fan following, as well as his solid
relationships with fellow actors and the studio, resulted in additional film
deals and an exclusive Spiderman movie series. Holland made his Marvel
Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. In
December, the actor will play Spiderman in his next film, Spider-Man: No Way
Home, which has been making news for what seems like an age.
Since his appearance in Civil War in 2016, the actor
has starred in a number of Avengers event films, including the two epics in the
MCU, Infinity War and Endgame. Along with this, he also received his own solo
trilogy, with Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, the third of which
will be released in December. Now the biggest question in the industry and the
most pressing concern among fans is whether Tom will return as the friendly
neighborhood Spider-Man.
Tom Holland's current contract with Marvel Studios
expires with No Way Home. Fans are looking for either the studio or Tom
to declare the extension of Tom's contract or any new projects with the actor.
Tom, on the other hand, has decided to terrify his fans by hinting towards the
conclusion of his adventure as Spiderman.
We Got This Covered recently reported that Tom may not
return as Spiderman, citing the actor's own statement that he is unsure of his
future as Spiderman. According to Tom Holland, “I honestly don’t know (if I’ll
return). It’s the first time since I got cast as Spider-Man that I don’t have a
contract.”
Tom Holland recently said that the whole crew was
approaching Spider-Man: No Way Home as the franchise's final chapter. He claims
that the next time they suit up, it will be a different version.
“We were all treating it as the end of a franchise,
let’s say. I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again,
you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming
trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different and
tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we
were definitely treating it like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it,”
Tom Holland said.
Holland also said that one of his final days on set,
while filming a sequence with co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, he became
emotional. In the words of Holland: "We've been making these films for
five years now. We've had such an amazing relationship, the three of us. We've
been with each other every step of the way. We've done every single film, every
single press tour. So this one scene, if this would be the last time, was heart-breaking
but also really exciting because we're all moving into the next chapter of our
careers. So, sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I've ever had
on set. I don't think I've cried like that ever."
Despite the fact that there is a lot of speculation and
rumors' about Tom's future as Spiderman, nothing can be proven right now.
Marvel has always listened to its fans and never failed to surprise them with
incredible surprises. All that remains is for fans to wait until December to
see what Marvel has planned for them in Spider-Man: No Way Home on the big
screen.
