Snake Problem: Houseowner burned down the house
There is an old saying, "burn the house to kill a
mouse." Literally, something similar happened in Maryland, USA. When the
homeowner's attempt to smoke out the snakes inside the house turned into a burn
down of the house, worth 18 million U.S. dollars. Part of the house caught
fire due to the spread of fire from the smouldering coal.
The incident took place on November 23, in Maryland,
USA. The fire broke out in a multi-storey, approximately 10,000-square-foot
home. The fire spread from the basement of the house and spread rapidly to
other floors.
The owner decided to try to get rid of the snakes in
the house since they were a nuisance. A previous tenant of the residence was
bitten by snakes as well. To smoke, the landlord used coal. flammable objects
near the burning coal ignited the fire. The residence also caught fire,
according to a representative for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue
Service.
At the time of the fire, no one was inside the
residence. The cops were alerted after a neighbour noticed the smoke rising.
The fire department was able to put out the fire after a long struggle.
The cost of the damage is estimated to be $1 million. A
local homeowner just purchased the house for $1.8 million. At the same time,
what happened to the snakes in the house remains unknown.
