CBI Arrests Indian Navy Officers for Leaking Information
Six people have been booked by the CBI for leaking secret information regarding a submarine project.
Six people have been charged by the CBI, including two navy
officers, with leaking secret information about India's Kilo class submarine. A
charge sheet has been filed and two former Navy commanders are included in the
charge sheet along with four others. All six have been charged under the IPC and
the Anti-Corruption Act.
The CBI had alleged that they had passed on the commercial
details of the Medium Refit Life Certification (MRLC) scheme related to India's
Kilo class submarines to outsiders for money. The case comes after the arrest
of the former naval officers Randeep Singh and SJ Singh. Both were
arrested on September 3. According to sources, about Rs 2 crore was recovered
from Randeep's possession during the ensuing investigation.
The CBI arrested Ajit Kumar Pandey, the commander of the
Western Naval Command headquarters, as a result of the investigation.
Eventually, Ajit Kumar Pandey's subordinate, another commander, was also
arrested by the CBI. The CBI said that the two commanders shared classified
trade information on the Kilo class submarines with retired navy officials
working for foreign firms.
S.J. Singh retired from the Navy earlier this year.
Singh is currently employed by a Korean firm that is interested in developing
naval projects in India. In connection with the matter, at least a dozen
persons were questioned, including a rear admiral.
