Emotional Statements at COP26: Greta Thunberg slams world leaders; Elizabeth Wathuti makes an emotional appeal
Environmentalists are angry over a slowdown in climate
change mitigation measures. Young environmental activists from several
countries marched from the UN climate summit to the opposite bank of the Clyde
River. The march was accompanied by banners with the slogan 'We Are Watching
You'.
Greta Thunberg charged that global leaders and other
officials at COP26 were merely pretending to care about our future. Thunberg
said while addressing the crowd, "Inside COP there are just politicians
and people in power pretending to take our futures seriously. Change is not
going to come from inside there, "he said." She also added, “Change
is not going to come from inside, that is not leadership. We said no more blah
blah blah....no more exploitation of nature, no more exploitation of people. We
are sick and tired of it."
Elizabeth Wathuti, a Kenyan environmental activist, has
made an appeal to world leaders to act on climate change. On Monday, Wathuti
said at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) that children and young people
are expecting world leaders to act.
Wathuti, made an emotional request to world leaders to keep their eyes open for those already suffering from global warming. “Right now, as you sit comfortably in this conference centre Glasgow, over 2 million of my fellow Kenyans are facing climate-related starvation.” says Elizabeth Wathuti. She added "Every day we learn that if we take care of the trees, they take care of us. The children cannot live on words and empty promises. They are waiting for you to act. Please open your hearts,".
